Behind The Wheel Course Agreement

Requirements:

Each youth must have a Hawaii learner's permit to present at each driving lesson, and wear glasses or contacts if they are required.  The youth must dress in long pants, no more than 1" heels and regular shirt (with no low cut front or mid-drift showing) and be dry and clean.  Students who do not comply will be asked to leave and need to reschedule and pay reschedule fee of $45.00 at the next lesson.  If your youth drops, no refund will be given.

Parent and Student Homework:

All parents must commit to practicing with their youth at least 3 1/2 hours per week the driving tasks outlined in the "The Hawaii New Driver Skills Log" and the skills learned at their youth's previous D.O.T. driving lesson.  If you cannot practice with your youth, please find a licensed adult to complete the homework (no teens practice).  We ask all parents to commit to taking their youth driving as if it were an extra-curricular activity weekly.  If you practice 3 1/2 hours every week, your youth will be able to complete the 50 hour log in three months.

The Requirements by Law:

The 50 hours (40 day and 10 night hours) log, is required in addition to the 6 hours with the D.O.T. certified instructors before the official certificate can be issued.  When your youth receives the second certificate, he or she will be eligible to test for their driver's license.  The state requires the Driver Education instructors to check for exact hours, the notary symbol before a certificate can be issued.  The notary form and logs must be collected upon the issuance of the certificate, and are not turned in at the driver's license office.

Student who cannot pass will be benched till they receive more practice

Training is conducted in accordance with the standards set forth by the State of Hawaii Department of Transportation, Act 175 "All modules consist of instruction until the student reaches a certain level of proficiency."  Remember the basic modeling for driving will be introduced to your youth, he or she must be able to execute each task in the lesson before moving on to the next.  After your youth completes the 6 basic lessons and the 50 hours, your youth will still need lots of practice.  According to the American Automobile Association, studies indicate it takes new drivers about 5 years to reach the driving abilities to be an average experienced driver.

Contractual Agreements about BTW Driving Lesson

A 48 hour cancellation notice must be left on the 220-3210 number or a $45 reschedule fee will apply, no exceptions except death or hospitalization.  It is very unfair to the rest of the youths waiting to drive to not give them a chance to take the driving slot because of last minute cancellations.  A 15-minute grace period is given to the student and instructor.  Each lesson must be scheduled at the last driving lesson, not phoned in later.  We are unable to accommodate students who want to call later.  The student must arrive with an exact date and be available between _____________________.  Your youth must meet outside The Boys & Girls Club and make arrangements to get a ride home, unless otherwise agreed.
